Heather Bartlett

Heather Bartlett

Heather Bartlett is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker skilled in integrating creative art techniques in her daily practice. Heather has previously worked in homelessness services with Roof Above, using creative tools to engage clients with complex needs on their path toward housing stability. She specializes in an understanding of clients with severe and persistent mental illness and advocating for those who cannot access the care they need. Currently, Heather is working as a Behavioral Health Consultant with Charlotte Community Health Clinic continuing to provide a pathway toward mental healthcare, walking with clients on their personal path toward wellness and honoring the dignity for every person’s story. Heather knows that without self-care we cannot continue to do this hard work and sometimes self-care takes a bit of creativity!

Susan Crawford

Susan Crawford

Susan completed a Bachelors of Science in Justice Administration in North Carolina. At Charlotte Rescue Mission as a technician and then Admissions Coordinator, she worked intensively with those needing treatment for Substance Use Disorder. She was the frontline for many struggling with addiction. Her desire to provide resources created a strong connection to the treatment community in Charlotte. Her current position is as Community Liaison and Outreach Specialist. Susan is registered with the NCSAPPB and won Crisis Intervention Team member of the year in 2022. She is extremely successful in partnering with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and others throughout the state, CMPD, and has in-depth knowledge of Detox centers and addiction treatment state wide.

Dr. Andrea Garraway

Dr. Andrea Garraway

Dr. Andrea Garraway was born and raised in Guyana, South America. She prides herself on being a devoted family woman, scholar, and global citizen. Dr. Garraway is a board-certified practitioner and author. She has been in professional practice as a psychotherapist for 13 years. Her experience includes providing clinical supervision, individual sessions, facilitating group, marriage, and couples counseling to clients with treatment needs concerning substance misuse, chemical dependency, and recovery. Additionally, her professional experience includes work with trauma, grief, sexual abuse, domestic violence, and self-mutilation/injury. Dr. Garraway continues research on resilience, generational legacy, and clinical supervision. Most recently she contributed three chapters to the 2023 SAGE Encyclopedia of Multicultural Counseling, Social Justice, and Advocacy project. Dr. Garraway is passionate about education and the power of prevention.
Karen King

Karen King

Karen holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Fayetteville State University and a Master of Science in Human Services with a specialization in Social and Community Services. She is a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist and a Certified Clinical Supervisor. She brings over two decades of experience in the for-profit and non-profit sectors, leading successful teams in development and implementation. She is enthusiastic about delivering exceptional results and operating lasting change. Whether it is training leaders, facilitating training, speaking engagements, or working one-on-one, Karen challenges perceptions while fostering authenticity to empower others to impact change.
Barbara L. Thomas

Barbara L. Thomas

Director of The Forum

Barbara Thomas as the director of The Forum is one of the program’s primary trainers. With years of experience in non-profits as Director of Dove’s Nest, at Charlotte Rescue Mission, and Director of Services at Urban Ministry Center (now Roof Above) and in private practice at the Counseling Center at Charlotte, Barbara uses her experience to highlight the practical application of all concepts taught in class. With a passion for learning and for the development of staff in the community, Barbara teaches with compassion and knowledge. She has certifications in Motivational Interviewing, Trauma Informed Care, De-escalation and is a NC certified counselor. Her heart for serving the underserved undergirds all that she does.

Jon Weddell

Jon Weddell

Jon Weddell, MSW, MDiv, and member of MINT, has been training a variety of person-centered, strengths-based topics for social service staff for over 20 years. He is an advocate of the Recovery Model and Its focus on strengths and resilience. He attended his first Motivational Interviewing (MI) training in 2006, which ignited his passion for training and equipping staff to help people change and grow. He joined the MI Network of Trainers in 2009. Currently, he works at Carolina Outreach, providing intakes, assertive engagement and outpatient therapy. He trains in MI, permanent supportive housing, and he is leading The Forum’s MI learning community
